ABOUT THE LAKES WEST OF KENORA

In today's hectic world, cottagers want to finish their workweek and get to the lake as soon as possible.  That's why this area is so desirable; its closer proximity to Winnipeg. Most recreational properties in this area are less than a 2 hour drive from Winnipeg and are easily accessible off of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17 West) on all season roads.  Properties in this area range from affordable seasonal cabins to custom year-round leisure homes and some private islands.

Abundant in lakes, and a short drive past Falcon Lake over the Ontario border, is where this "community" begins.  But don't be fooled, this area is vast and there is a lot of ground to cover.  Let us break it down for you.

West of Kenora Overview

We define the borders of this area from its west side starting at the Manitoba/Ontario border, with the hamlet of Ingolf, ON being it's most western spot on the shores of Longpine Lake and Macara Lake.

Heading eastbound on the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17 West), you'll pass Tannis Lake, Royal Lake, Moth Lake, Engineer Lake, Winnetka Lake, Lake of Two Mountains, Caribou Lake, Granite Lake, Rice Lake, Deception Lake and Paddy Lake. These lakes are staggered along both sides of the highway and are generally easy to access with most passenger vehicles.

Along the way you would have also passed Rush Bay Road, which services the neighborhoods of Rush Bay, Woodchuck Bay and Echo Bay all on Lake of the Woods.  Clytie Bay Road, which is off of Rush Bay Road, also services the east side of Shoal Lake.

As you drive past the Clearwater Bay area you approach the eastern edge of our "West of Kenora" boundary and the hamlet of Laclu.  This distinct area, also known as Pellatt (the proper name of the unorganized municipality, consists of a mix of recreational and year round waterfront dwellings, rural year-round homes and some farming land. Serviced by Ontario Highway 641, you'll find War Eagle Lake, Lulu Lake, Louise Lake, Belle Lake, Rosina Lake, Sandy Lake and Muriel Lake
